Sunday afternoon (2/24) was a fun one at the Jones household. Despite beautiful, clear skies outside, we decided to spend the day indoors attending basketball games. A friend gave us two tickets to the Pitt vs. Louisville game and we already had four tickets to the Duquesne vs. La Salle game. Unfortunately, both were losses but we still had fun.
Dylan and I went to the Pitt game and the seats were in the second to last row of the Petersen Event Center. I thought I was affected by heights but Dylan was really not happy. After a harrowing walk up the aisle and across our row, we made it to our seats and enjoyed the first half. “The Pete” is a great place to watch a game and Louisville is a good team so there was a lot of energy. Gilbert Brown is definitely starting to step-up for the Panthers and I hope he gets a lot of playing time through the rest of the season because they'll need him. Pitt’s defense is pretty average, however, so I’m not sure how long the rest of the season will be.
At halftime, we went down to get some popcorn and sodas. The second half was great too but we had to leave before the end of the game to meet Evan for the next game so we missed the finale (a two-point loss). That was OK because we beat the crowd. We took a shortcut that I knew through the hospitals and Dylan thought it was cool to walk through the basement corridors.
We actually made good time in getting across town to the Palumbo Center. We waited for Julie, who drove Evan and their friend, Ben, into town for the game. By the time we got in, got hot dogs and sodas and got to our seats, there was about six minutes left in the first half. The boys enjoyed hanging out at the game and watching all of the action. We got a kick out of the La Salle coach who seemed really grumpy and spent most of the game yelling at everybody (his players, the officials, his coaches). We also enjoyed the halftime show which was a man in his sixties who shot three-pointers. Despite horrible form and matching black socks and sneakers, he managed to drain about 40 shots (with 7 misses) in a ten minute span. The really funny thing is that it was the same halftime show that Dylan and I saw at the Pitt game!
